Reserve's naming makes history for heritage group

Another chapter has been written in the history of Biddaddaba with a reserve at Boyland being named for a local heritage group.

The naming of the Biddaddaba Creek Heritage Reserve was approved by Council at today's Ordinary Meeting following 20-year campaign that began following the launch in December 2000 of The History of Biddaddaba Creek, Boyland, Canungra Line, Queensland.

Surplus funds from the project that were donated to the then Beaudesert Shire Council contributed to installing a park bench and shelter at the reserve near Cavell Bridge on Boyland Road, prompting calls for an official naming for the rest area.

Scenic Rim's Parks, Gardens and Open Spaces Portfolio Councillor Amanda Hay said the reserve not only served as a rest area but also supplied Council's road maintenance team and Rural Fire Brigade with water from four bore tanks.

"There were no objections or submissions of alternative names of the reserve and this decision will satisfy the Biddaddaba Creek Heritage Group's 20-year campaign to name the reserve," she said.

Division 3 Councillor Virginia West said the naming of the reserve would be welcomed by the local community.

"There are still a number of long-term residents in this valley who were very much a part of writing the history book and will be happy to see this outcome," she said.
