Boonah Airfield
Boonah Airfield is a community asset with the land owned by Scenic Rim Regional Council (Council) on the southern outskirts of Boonah. During 2010 Council entered into a lease with Boonah Aviation Incorporated (BAI) for the management of this facility.
A perceived increase in the scope and intensity of aircraft operations at the airfield led to a decision by Council to engage an external consultant, Aviation projects, to investigate and report on the risks that arise from aircraft operations at the airfield, and determine whether or not these risks are being satisfactorily managed.
Boonah Airfield Information
Council owns several parcels of land that are leased to Boonah Aviation Incorporated (BAI) who operate an airfield. BAI also has agreements with other landowners to use parts of their properties as part of the airfield. Council does not operate the airfield.
Council has an obligation on any of its leased land to ensure that the lease holders are meeting their obligations to safety and legislative compliance, particularly where breaches result in a risk to the safety of members of the public and private assets. Where these are not being met, Council would be remiss to allow continued use.
Council is currently in discussions with Boonah Aviation Incorporated (BAI) regarding an extension for five years to the current lease.
Council has held proactive discussions with relevant committee members from BAI regarding the airfield operation and the expectation to address the issues raised in the audit.
