National Fire Ant Eradication Program
Under the Biosecurity Act 2014, Queenslanders must take reasonable steps to prevent the spread of fire ants, including reporting suspected sightings within 24 hours and treating nests if required. Biosecurity Plan
The Scenic Rim Biosecurity Plan has been developed for managing invasive plants and animals and Council's biosecurity obligations in line with Queensland Government legislation.
The biosecurity plan details the Scenic Rim's invasive plant and animal species which have been categorised as prohibited or restricted under the Biosecurity Act 2014 and their priority for management based on a risk assessment. It also provides practical guidance for the community on minimising the spread of invasive species on private and public land.
Biosecurity Awareness Workshops
Council’s Biosecurity team are hosting a FREE Biosecurity Awareness Workshop. Presentations by Council’s Biosecurity team, biodiversity officers and guest speakers will focus on the potential biosecurity risks to our region, including invasive weeds and animals.
The workshops will identify biosecurity risks relevant to the area, provide management practices and strategies on mitigating risks and provide an opportunity for Council to show landholders what it is doing to meet its own General Biosecurity Obligations (GBOs).
The workshops will provide information to assist stakeholders in developing positive biosecurity practices and are funded by the Queensland Government’s Queensland Biosecurity Grants Program.
