Grants support groups that add value to Scenic Rim communities
In-Kind community grants support key local events including the Beaudesert Show
Community groups which add value to the Scenic Rim were supported with more than $43,800 from Council through in-kind contributions during 2022-2023.
An update on the Scenic Rim Community Grants Program tabled at today's Ordinary Meeting detailed the wide-ranging support provided by Council to grassroots organisations whose events and activities contribute to the region's cultural and sporting life and the wellbeing of residents.
Council's Community, Arts and Culture Portfolio Councillor Michael Enright said Council was pleased to support the efforts of a wide range of community groups through in-kind assistance as part its grants program which had provided $400,000 for local organisations during the past financial year.
"The monetary and non-monetary support that Council provides saves our community groups precious funds to assist them in delivering programs that benefit all members of the Scenic Rim community," he said.
"These are groups that bring people together, improving individual and community health and wellbeing, and provide cultural and recreational opportunities for our residents."
The total of $43,895.87 of in-kind support provided by Council in 2022-2023 included subsidised venue hire of the Boonah Cultural Centre, The Centre Beaudesert and the Vonda Youngman Community Centre Tamborine Mountain and subsidised waste collection.
"Additional in-kind support from Council has also provided community groups and organisations with tent and marquee hire and banner signage," Cr Enright said.
The maximum amount of in-kind support available to not-for-profit community groups and organisations based in the Scenic Rim in 2022-2023 was $1,000 although this will be increased to $1500 a year in 2023-2024.
"This will be a major benefit to our region's not-for-profit organisations as it represents an additional $500 that they will not have to find through fundraising," Cr Enright said.
"I thank all of our voluntary community groups for their contributions that improve the wellbeing of our communities through a wide range of events and activities."
