Two massive weekends of sales of pre-loved goods across the region have wrapped up as part of the national Garage Sale Trail festival.

Powered locally by Council, this year's event saw 113 local registrations with over 4,000 people attending sales across the Scenic Rim at residential houses, apartments, local businesses and community groups, at street sales and schools and even from car boots.

Scenic Rim Mayor Greg Christensen said the festival was not only a fun way for residents to connect, make some money and keep good stuff out of landfill, but that the great results confirmed how serious the region's communities are about reducing waste going to landfill.

Over 31,000 items were up for grabs across the region and with their associated sales placed Scenic Rim Regional Council #2 in Queensland, sitting just behind Ipswich City Council and tying with Moreton Bay Regional Council.

Scenic Rim Regional Council also placed #11 nationally per capita.

As part of the local campaign, 100% of participants pledged they would not illegally dump unsold goods and as a result of the keen interest from participating sellers, the sales generated across both weekends kept a massive 44,346 tonnes of reusable items out of landfill.

This is the circular economy in action and the Mayor said he felt proud that so many Scenic Rim residents supported this fantastic waste initiative.
