Scenic Rim residents and visitors will enjoy upgraded facilities at Lake Moogerah following the completion of the latest stage of works at Council's popular camping ground.

Already a desired destination for campers and day-trippers, the Lake Moogerah Caravan Park has been upgraded with a new camp kitchen, main amenities building, commissioning of the new water treatment and effluent system, landscaping, and electrical improvements including a new main switchboard and underground power replacing overhead lines.

Scenic Rim Mayor Greg Christensen said the works, funded by the Queensland Government's COVID Works for Queensland and the Unite and Recover Community Stimulus programs, had created a compliant and modern camping ground, allowing for an increase in currently available unpowered campsites.

"The project, including the replacement of aging electrical infrastructure and the availability of potable water throughout the park, has provided a firm foundation for the future," he said.

"Visitors will welcome the new camp kitchen, with its fridges and microwaves, as well as the modern and accessible shower and toilet facilities, and new footpaths providing safer movement around the new amenities and kitchen areas."

Division 5 Councillor Marshall Chalk highlighted the positive impact that the facility already has on the community and those who visit the region.

"Lake Moogerah is already a popular recreational space for families and friends to enjoy boating, fishing, water sports and the great outdoors," he said.

"The new facilities will be greatly appreciated by both day trippers and campers alike, encouraging even more people to enjoy the natural beauty of our spectacular Scenic Rim."

The first stage of works, completed in August 2021, included the installation of a water treatment plant, effluent storage system upgrade and the installation of associated tanks.

Works on the second stage commenced in October 2021 but were delayed by a series of severe weather events.

"Council is grateful to the Queensland Government for its funding support which has enabled these significant improvements that have taken the caravan park to the next level," Mayor Christensen said.

"Our thanks also to the community and visitors to the region for their patience as these works progressed, although I am sure everyone will agree the completed project has been well worth the wait."

This project is funded by the Queensland Government COVID Works for Queensland and Unite and Recover Community Stimulus programs delivered in association with Scenic Rim Regional Council. These programs support job creation through the delivery of new infrastructure, and maintenance or minor works projects.
