Residents urged to get ready for rain

Council is urging Scenic Rim residents to be prepared for the next 10 days of forecast wet weather across the region.

Residents are encouraged to stay alert, prepare their properties and emergency kits, and show extra caution when driving on roads.

It is important everyone is well-prepared and remains diligent on the roads, particularly during periods of heavy rain.

Prolonged periods of wet weather bring more potholes, along with possible road closures, landslips, and freight disruptions.

It is important that everyone, especially those new to the region, understands the potential for flooding in areas in which they live and work and that they have a plan in place.

Ahead of the forecast weather, residents are urged to prepare by:

  • revisiting their household emergency and evacuation plans
  • stocking their emergency kit with sufficient supplies to last three days
  • checking their insurance coverage
  • removing debris from around the house and securing loose items in the yard (green waste is free for Scenic Rim residents to drop off to a Council waste facility)
  • remembering to drive to the conditions or stay off the road totally and do not drive through flood waters, and
  • signing up to Council's Disaster Dashboard to monitor updates on current road conditions, weather warnings, power outages and more.

In the last 12 months, Council has experienced 250 days of delays due to weather, equivalent to a year of working days.

Even a brief period of significant rain could further impact Council's ongoing flood reconstruction and capital works programs.

Depending on the forecast rain, capital works projects such as the Town Centre Revitilisation and Beaudesert Enterprise Precinct could be halted to reallocate crews to undertake emergency works to reinstate roads.

Council will advise the community accordingly should circumstances necessitate Disaster Management protocols.

Residents are encouraged to sign up to Council's Disaster Dashboard and access information and resources to prepare their emergency kit on the Get Ready Queensland website.
