Paint Like Pollock at Boonah Library's Arts Morning

Boonah Library is offering a new perspective on street art, inviting the community to Paint like Pollock at its Library Arts Laneway Celebration this month.

Showcasing the local arts community, the event on Saturday 16 June has evolved from the library's zine-making school holiday and after-school workshops in conjunction with Boonah State High School.

Mayor Greg Christensen said the all-abilities event, for ages six years and over, aimed to encourage creativity in everyone, not only those exhibiting the talents of Blue Poles' creator Jackson Pollock.

"Paint like Pollock is an activity designed to encourage abstract creativity, with participants having an opportunity to express themselves with paint independently, collaborating throughout the morning to create a massive three by four-metre masterpiece," he said.

"I am looking forward to seeing the evolution of the communal canvas in our laneway but more importantly a paradigm shift in the minds of those who desire to be creative."

Cr Christensen said the free community arts event, showcasing stalls by members of the local arts community, illustrated the multi-faceted character of Scenic Rim libraries.

"It's great to see the library's extension of its free activities to hands-on creative experiences in this public space," he said.

“This event will also provide a platform for creatives to promote their work, encouraging networking amongst our local arts community and the general public."

The Library Arts Laneway Celebration runs from 9am to midday on Saturday 16 June.
