Queensland Day doubles up as a welcome to latest Australian citizens
20 Scenic Rim residents became Australian citizens at a Queensland Day ceremony.
Sunday 6 June provided an extra special reason to celebrate this year, with the formal embrace of 20 Scenic Rim residents as new Australians in a citizenship ceremony alongside the Queensland Day celebrations.
The ceremony took place at the official welcoming of the Scenic Rim Regional Council family fun day event on Sunday as part of the Queensland Day festivities.
The atmosphere was buzzing in Beaudesert's Jubilee Park that took on a carnival atmosphere with market stalls, live music and free activities for all ages. In support of local producers, attendees had the chance to win vouchers for fresh local produce in the steak-themed games.
Mayor Greg Christensen said combining the citizenship ceremony and the Queensland Day celebrations in the park made for a momentous day.
"It was a great honour to formally welcome our newest local residents on such a special day in the Scenic Rim,” he said.
“It really highlighted our strong spirited community and gave our new residents an opportunity to celebrate their citizenship with friends and family.
“As with every year, Queensland Day is a chance to share in our sense of pride in being both Australians and Queenslanders, and to celebrate the strength and connection of our Scenic Rim communities.
“It’s always a pleasure to witness people from across the Scenic Rim gather and enjoy a day of relaxed fun together, particularly following a challenging year of cancelled events due to COVID-19.
“A special thanks to the Queensland Government for their sponsorship of our Queensland Day event, which helped to make our family fun day so successful," Cr Christensen said.
This year marks Queensland’s 162nd birthday since becoming a separate colony from New South Wales.
