Council Renews Rural Firies' Lease at Birnam

The Birnam Rural Fire Brigade has secured a 20-year lease on Council land on Beaudesert-Beenleigh Road.

The new lease agreement over the one-hectare site at Birnam commences 1 January 2019 and continues the brigade's already two-decade long association with the site.

Division 2 Councillor Nadia O'Carroll said the brigade was staffed by volunteers who, in addition to their core role of firefighting and fire hazard reduction burns, regularly assisted in the clean-up following extreme weather events, provided community education on reducing bushfire risks and administered fire permits.

"During the recent bushfires across our region, the Birnam Rural Fire Brigade provided valuable support to the operations of the Queensland Fire and Emergency Service," she said.

The brigade's previous lease over the land at Birnam was last renewed by Council in 2009.
"The brigade has, at all times, well maintained their lease and I am sure they will appreciate having it renewed for a longer period of time," Cr O'Carroll said.
