Two projects that will benefit the Tamborine Mountain community and add to the Scenic Rim visitor experience are to be considered for a share of $300 million of Australian Government funding.

The first stage of construction of the Gallery Walk project as well as parkland upgrades at Dapsang Drive Reserve and Lions Park on Curtis Road have been approved for submission for funding under Round 1 of the Growing Regions Program.

Scenic Rim Mayor Greg Christensen said the projects had passed the first of the federal government's two-stage approval process, with Council endorsing the projects for final submission at yesterday’s Ordinary Meeting.

"Both projects were identified in Council's 10-year capital works program and meet the guidelines for funding under the Growing Regions Program, which aims to drive regional prosperity," he said.

"The program provides for the upgrade or construction of community infrastructure that offers wide-ranging socio-economic benefits and these projects clearly meet the fund's objectives."

If successful in securing the funding, Council will contribute 50 per cent of the total cost of each project, allocating $2,096,410.80 for the first stage of the Gallery Walk construction and $741,850 for the Lions Park and Dapsang Drive Reserve upgrades.

Scenic Rim's Parks, Gardens and Open Spaces Portfolio Councillor Amanda Hay welcomed Council's endorsement of the projects for funding approval.

"Only projects in the very eastern region of the Scenic Rim are eligible for support under the Growing Regions Program and so I am hopeful that funding will be provided for these projects that will add value to the Tamborine Mountain community," she said.

"The upgrades to the popular Lions Park and Dapsang Drive Reserve will be very much appreciated by the residents and ratepayers of our local community as well as visitors who will also benefit from the Gallery Walk project."
