Bushfire situation in Scenic Rim

Local Disaster Management Group Chair Mayor Greg Christensen has urged the Scenic Rim community to be alert, not alarmed, as emergency services are managing the current bushfire situation at Mundoolun, Birnam and Veresdale Scrub near Beaudesert.

Mayor Christensen said the messaging from QFES to watch and act and prepare to leave is to encourage people to think about their 'what if' plans now so there is time to be prepared as it can be difficult to make good decisions in a fast-moving situation.

"This is the time to be planning, not posting photos on social media, and to think about your family's circumstances," he said.

"For people who feel uncomfortable remaining at home, places of refuge have been opened at the Beaudesert Baptist Church and Beaudesert Showgrounds. The showgrounds offer space for people with animals."
