The landslip on the Guanaba Park fire trail is among works supported by the Community and Recreational Asset Recovery and Resilience Program

Scenic Rim Regional Council is set to commence work on eight projects across the region, including the reconstruction of fire trails, following approval of more than $4 million in funding.

Removal of silt from ponds in the Tamborine Mountain Regional Botanic Gardens in the Scenic Rim and restoration of park roads are among the projects supported by the Community and Recreational Asset Recovery and Resilience Program.

Jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland governments under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements, the program aims to restore and improve the resilience of community and recreational assets and facilities damaged in multiple disaster events between July 2021 and June 2022.

Scenic Rim Mayor Greg Christensen welcomed the approval of funding by the Queensland Reconstruction Authority for the projects, which will have region-wide benefits.

"Removing more than a metre of silt will help to restore the health of the ponds at the botanic gardens and protect their plant and animal life," he said.

"Access to the entrance of the historic Lahey Tunnel at Canungra will be restored with the removal of fallen trees and debris and the installation of a protective cage, to protect the structure from further landslips and future damage, will be investigated.

"Council reserves at Beaudesert and Tamborine Mountain, which were impacted by landslips and not eligible for other funding, will be reconstructed to enable fire trail access.

"The funding will also enable the reconstruction of access roads to parks at Canungra, Beaudesert and Harrisville."

Mayor Christensen said Council acknowledges and thanks the Australian and Queensland governments for the much-needed funding being provided under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements, which will be welcomed by the various communities.
