Heavy rainfall is less likely to have a major impact on the Illinbah community following construction of a bridge at Price Creek, funded by the Australian Government’s Emergency Response Fund.

The $3.1 million in funding will provide a new concrete, two-lane bridge on Upper Coomera Road at Ferny Glen that will be more resilient to flooding and improve accessibility for the area's 73 residential properties and businesses.

Scenic Rim Mayor Greg Christensen said project funding, welcomed at Council's Ordinary Meeting yesterday, would provide increased confidence in the Scenic Rim's Road network.

"The low-level crossing at Price Creek is currently the only access for the community but is vulnerable to extreme weather events," he said.

"Upper Coomera Road is not only an important connector, for the local school bus and emergency services, it is also the community's only evacuation route by road.

"On behalf of Council, I acknowledge and thank the Australian government for this funding being provided under the Emergency Response Fund, the new bridge will enhance community safety as well as road safety within our region."
