Council remains committed to delivering infrastructure works in light of COVID-19, wet weather events, resourcing availability and supply chain setbacks.

The delivery of Council's 2021 - 2022 Infrastructure Capital Works Program was tabled at today's Ordinary Meeting.

Council's Capital Works delivery team services our vast and unique region that spans over 4,000km2 to provide the fit for purpose level of service to our residents and visitors, working to ensure our transport network is accessible and that our civil infrastructure is maintained.

Over the last two years, the continued impacts of COVID-19 and wet weather events have delayed the delivery of all scheduled capital projects. In the coming months and into 2023, these issues will remain, affecting the future delivery of the ongoing Capital Works Program as crews also assist in repairing damage to infrastructure as a result of natural disasters.

The COVID-19 impacts on labour availability, both internally and externally (i.e. contractors), and availability and price of materials place further pressure on Council teams to sustainably manage associated project costs, some of which are funded by other levels of Government.

Due to these issues outside of Council's control, our requests for extension of time to complete planned projects have been afforded grace by a number of our funding partners for those that have agreements tied to funding.

Our teams have continued to work around these impacts for particular projects where possible, and have successfully delivered a number of projects over the last calendar year.

We know that times have been challenging because of these events and we acknowledge that our region has a strong sense of community spirit. Our teams will continue to strive to deliver the best possible outcomes for our region, for those who already live and work here, for those who regularly commute, travel through or visit here, and for those who want to live here.
