Rathdowney Memorial Grounds playground proposed design

Scenic Rim Regional Council has appointed a contractor to carry out playground enhancement works at the Rathdowney Memorial Grounds.

The project is one of several to be delivered under Council's commitment to developing vibrant towns and villages, with works anticipated to take two months to complete, weather and site conditions permitting.

The first stage of works include re-painting existing structures, the installation of new softfall material around the base of the playground, and the removal of existing play items which will be replaced with a series of new all-inclusive play activities.

Division 5 Councillor Marshall Chalk said the planned playground design reflects the history of the Rathdowney Memorial Grounds, being a typically quiet, yet well visited park.

"The park is visited by many children of various ages, especially those that live locally," he said.

"The playground design is inclusive of all-abilities, with a range of play activities that are accessible from the ground level.

"A swing-set that promotes all-inclusive play with a wheelchair transfer will cater for those who have varying needs and abilities.

"The design also includes a range of new play activities, including a multi-level interactive tower with a tube slide, a rope crawl tunnel, a ground to deck climbing net made out of rope, a rope transition bridge, an interactive play panel, a quad leap, and a cargo net and spider web.

"I have no doubt that the playground's regular users will be eager to start using the new equipment."

Mayor Greg Christensen said the playground upgrade would enrich the lives of its daily users and those visiting Rathdowney.

"Our parks, playgrounds and open spaces across the region are well-visited and enjoyed by our communities and visitors alike.

“The playground enhancement will contribute to building healthy, engaged and resourced communities. With the addition of all-abilities features, it will be a more inclusive facility.

“There is no doubt that this project will have the support of the Rathdowney community, especially from its regular users, as it will enhance the vibrancy of the Memorial Grounds and contribute to overall visitor experience.

"We thank the community for their patience and understanding as we deliver this important facility upgrade."
