Scenic Rim Regional Council is calling on the community to share their ideas on how Council and community should best respond to the challenge of climate change.

Mayor Greg Christensen said climate change and adaptation were identified as an important priority in the most recent review of the Scenic Rim Community Plan 2011-2026.

“We are One Scenic Rim, proudly working together for our region. Council jointly agreed that these issues require an outcome and focused attention to secure the best future for our region,” he said.

“Council’s job is to now produce Council's final Statement of Intent which will guide future projects and programs of work in keeping with community values. The Statement provides a framework to monitor and review Council’s progress towards its climate change and adaptation goals.

“The Scenic Rim offers an affordable lifestyle, and we all play a role in ensuring we are passing on a better region to our future generations. That is why it is important the community contribute to this important conversation and share their ideas.”

The community are invited to share their ideas on how individuals as well as Council can play their part in contributing to climate action in the Scenic Rim region through the Let’s Talk digital engagement platform. Have your say by joining the community panel at letstalk.scenicrim.qld.gov.au/climate-change. The consultation period is open between 19 April and 22 May 2022.

The consultation period is also a valuable opportunity for Council to explore the community’s understanding of climate change and gain insights into the expectations of Council's role. This will help guide the type of support that is needed in adapting to, and mitigating climate change impacts.

“It is our utmost responsibility to ensure we make a coordinated effort to transit to a climate-resilient region that is united on what we believe is the best course of action,” Cr Christensen said.
