Community Vibrancy Project Wins National Recognition

A project designed to revitalise Scenic Rim communities has been recognised in the National Awards for Local Government for its contribution to regional growth.  

Scenic Rim Regional Council's Vibrant and Active Towns and Villages (VATV) project received a Highly Commended in the category of Contributing to Regional Growth in awards announced by Minister for Regional Development, Territories and Local Government Dr John McVeigh.

Scenic Rim Mayor Greg Christensen said the award recognised Council's hard work, commitment to community consultation and improved community outcomes.

"The awards recognise local governments in empowering vibrant and connected regional communities that promote diversity and inclusion and make a positive difference for communities," he said.

"To receive this national recognition in company like the City of Melbourne and Latrobe City Council in Victoria is a huge honour."

Cr Christensen said the Scenic Rim community and all involved in bringing the VATV project to fruition should be proud of the award.

"This is another great outcome for the region and speaks to the quality of the work being delivered to revitalise, renew and re-energise our public spaces," he said.

Last year, the strategic outcomes of the VATV town centre master planning processes undertaken at Tamborine Mountain, Boonah and Beaudesert were lauded by the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects with the National Award for Excellence in Landscape Planning.

"Thus far, we have delivered four vibrancy projects with co-funding from State and Federal programs, including Boonah's Railway Street, Tamborine Mountain's Rhoda Rushbrook Park and Main Street Village Greens, and Tamborine's Memorial Hall precinct," Cr Christensen said.

"The town centre master plans for Boonah, Beaudesert and Tamborine Mountain will have a lifecycle of up to 10 years, not to mention the future master planning processes for other communities within this timeframe, so there will be many opportunities for higher levels of government to contribute further to our vibrancy vision."
