It's Queensland's Birthday and Everyone's Invited to the Party

Beaudesert will become party central as the Scenic Rim celebrates Queensland's birthday with a free day of family fun on Sunday 10 June.

Queensland Day 2018, the state's 159th birthday, will be celebrated under the banner of Our Strength Our Community and Mayor Greg Christensen urged all Scenic Rim residents to accept the open invitation to the party.

"This event is about celebrating everything that is great about our state, particularly the wonderful region in which we live," he said.

"It's a great opportunity to celebrate not only Queensland's birthday but also the strength and connection of our Scenic Rim communities."

The family fun day at Beaudesert's Jubilee Park is part of the Queensland Government's Queensland Day Celebrations which will run from 2 to 10 June statewide.

Beaudesert's Queensland Day celebrations begin at 10am on Sunday 10 June with a Welcome to Country by the traditional Mununjali Elders, to be followed by a Citizenship Ceremony to welcome 12 new Australians who will also become our newest Queenslanders.

Free family activities throughout the day include demonstrations by Skateboarding Australia in Jubilee Park's Skate Park, face painting, pony rides, a jumping castle, football shootout, games and colouring in and the Bush Buddies travelling presentation of Australian native wildlife.

The packed program of entertainment includes performances by five Beaudesert State High School groups - its Concert Band, String Sensation, Stage Band, Aboriginal Dance Group and Dance Troupes - as well as the Gold Coast Music Conservatory Students duo, Irish dance group Friends of Forbici and local solo entertainer Arden Forster.

There will also be food stalls and food vans catering for all tastes, a display of fire trucks from the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services and a range of market stalls.

"I hope you will join me for what promises to be a fabulous day of family fun, and celebrate what it means to be a Queenslander, our culture, heritage, people and places and our Scenic Rim history," Cr Christensen said.

Queensland Day on 6 June marks the day in 1859 that Queen Victoria signed the Letters Patent proclaiming Queensland as a separate colony from New South Wales.

Not surprisingly, she favoured the name Queensland for the new state," Cr Christensen said.
