Workshops to coach community groups in making the best pitch

Council will host six workshops around the region this month to help applicants pitch for highly competitive sport and recreation and community grants.

Round 1 of Council's Sport and Recreation Grants Program is now open and applicants are invited to attend workshops in Boonah, Tamborine Mountain and Beaudesert which will guide attendees through the program's guidelines and application process.

The Sport and Recreational Grants Program assists local clubs by offering financial grants for projects including minor infrastructure or facility improvements and minor capital projects which support and enhance their viability.

Scenic Rim Mayor Greg Christensen hopes these workshops will guide applicants in making properly-made applications of a high standard to ensure the best outcomes for our local clubs and community groups.

"These workshops are a valuable opportunity for representatives of not-for-profit sporting, recreational and community groups to learn more about the grant application process, providing applicants with a chance to ask questions and share ideas," he said.

Cr Christensen acknowledged the importance of offering support to such groups within the region.

"Council recognises that our local sport and recreation community contributes greatly to promoting the healthy and active lifestyle we enjoy within the Scenic Rim and is committed to assisting and improving the viability of our clubs.

"It's important to remember that it's not just about sport and fitness, as these clubs and our community groups are also about bringing people together, which strengthens our region's social fabric," Cr Christensen said.

Sport and Recreation grant applications must be received by 12 noon on Monday 25 June, 2018. Round 1 of Council's Community Grants Program will open next month. Grant guidelines and application forms can be accessed online at www.scenicrim.qld.gov.au/grants-funding-and-awards
