Council Draws up New Lease for Arts Group

A community group which is part of the social fabric of the Tamborine Mountain community has had its lease extended by Scenic Rim Regional Council for a further five years from 1 July.

Corporate and Community Services Chair, Cr Michael Enright, said Tamborine Mountain Creative Arts Inc had managed Council-owned premises on Wongawallan Road since 1981 and met the conditions of its lease at all times.

"Tamborine Mountain Creative Arts is an important social hub for the local community, bringing residents together to take part in a wide range of creative pursuits including pottery, sculpture, mosaics, craft, textile arts, tapestry, knitting, crochet, embroidery, folk art, water-colours, life drawing and wood carving," he said.

"It also provides a point of contact for writers, social bridge and mah-jong players and a men's discussion group.

"With its friendly, relaxed atmosphere, it's a great place for residents to meet and share knowledge about a wide range of arts and crafts and also to establish community connections.

"Tamborine Mountain Creative Arts supports the shared vision of the Scenic Rim Community Plan for healthy, engaged and resourceful communities and is a vital thread in the fabric of the Tamborine Mountain community encouraging local residents to take part in social and creative activities."
