Council appoints new Deputy Mayor and Councillor representations

Cr Michael Enright has been appointed Deputy Mayor of Scenic Rim Regional Council in line with its commitment to annually review representational roles.

Cr Enright has represented the communities of Division 4 since 2016 and chaired the Readiness Reference Group to support Scenic Rim community events and activities up to and during the Commonwealth Games in 2018. He has also served on Council's Regional Arts Development Fund Committee and Tourism Advisory Committee and several community organisations including Beaudesert Hospital Consumer Advisory Group and the Kooralbyn Community Centre Management Committee.

Mayor Greg Christensen said Cr Enright has proved his abilities as a Councillor and is developing his leadership skills and this will be a positive learning experience in the role of Deputy Mayor.

"Reviewing the Deputy Mayor position annually allows Council to support capacity building among Councillors and to share responsibilities.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank Cr Duncan McInnes for his service as Deputy Mayor for the previous two years," Cr Christensen said.   

Division 4 Cr Enright said he was looking forward to working with all Councillors and the Mayor so they can be the best functioning Council they can be.

"Representing the residents of Scenic Rim is always an honour and I'm ready to fulfil the important duties of Deputy Mayor and doing that to the best of my abilities," Cr Enright said.

At today's Ordinary Meeting, Council also appointed representatives for eight national and regional organisations and three Council committees for 2021-2022:

  • Beaucare Inc - Cr McConnell
  • Beaudesert Rural Fire Brigade Group - Cr McConnell, with Cr West as proxy
  • Boonah Rural Fire Brigade Group - Cr Chalk and Cr McInnes
  • Northern Rivers Joint Organisation - Cr McConnell
  • Regional Skills Investment Strategy Reference Group - Cr McConnell and Cr McInnes, with Cr West as proxy
  • Scenic Valleys Regional Roads and Transport Group - Cr West
  • The Council of Mayors (SEQ) Pty Ltd Economic Development Working Group - Cr McInnes, with Cr Chalk as proxy
  • The Council of Mayors (SEQ) Pty Ltd Rural Communities Special Interest Group (inactive) - Cr McInnes
  • Scenic Rim Regional Council Audit and Risk Committee - Mayor (appointed via the terms of reference) and Cr Enright, with Cr McConnell as proxy
  • Scenic Rim Regional Council Regional Arts Development Fund Committee - Cr Enright, with Cr McConnell as proxy
  • Scenic Rim Regional Council Tourism Advisory Committee - Cr Enright, Cr McConnell and Cr West.
