Village Greens Project Wins Regional Achievement Award

Tamborine Mountain's Village Greens project has won the Regional Achievement Award in the 2018 Queensland Architecture Awards.

Designed by John Mongard Landscape Architects and implemented under Council's Vibrant and Active Towns and Villages program, the Tamborine Mountain Village Greens on Main Street was officially opened in March this year.

The awards by the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA) recognise spaces in Queensland's key regions that enhance healthy communities, as well as the built and natural environments of the region.

Scenic Rim Mayor Greg Christensen said John Mongard Landscape Architects, the Tamborine community, and all involved in bringing the project to fruition should be very proud of this latest recognition.

"This is another proud moment for the region to celebrate and speaks to the quality of the work being delivered to revitalise, renew and re-energise our public spaces," he said.

"I commend the architects and all involved for developing an engaging outdoor precinct that gives our community a sense of place and offers an enjoyable visitor experience."

Cr Christensen said the Village Greens project is a superb example of community collaboration, as it tells a story of the area's history, culture, and the surrounding natural environment with unique design features including poetry and local artwork.

"This is a place that can be enjoyed every day by our local residents and community members and is also welcoming and informative for visitors discovering this magnificent part of the Scenic Rim region," he said.

The Scenic Rim was one of three regions to receive a Regional Achievement Award, alongside Central Queensland and the Darling Downs.

Council's Vibrant and Active Towns and Villages program has already been lauded by the AILA with the National Award for Excellence in Landscape Planning.
