Grants Help Sporting Groups Achieve Their Goals

Sporting and recreational groups that play a key role in Scenic Rim communities and contribute to the health and well-being of residents are among those to share in more than $58,000 of Council grants.

In the first round of Council's Sport and Recreation Grants Program for the 2018-19 year, two groups will benefit from facilities upgrades while a further three have secured seed funding, enabling them to apply for State Government grants through the Get Playing Places and Spaces program.

Corporate and Community Services Chair, Cr Michael Enright, said applications had been received and assessed on criteria including their community benefit, ability to support a healthy and active community and commitment to increase participation in sporting and recreational activities across all age groups.

"The primary purpose of the program is to support the long-term sustainability of community sporting and recreational groups which play a vital role in providing opportunities for increased participation in physical activity within the Scenic Rim," he said.

"Eligible projects include minor capital, facility improvements, field maintenance or surface upgrades, major equipment items, construction materials or leverage funding for larger facility projects."
