SCENIC RIM MOVES LOCAL DISASTER MANAGEMENT GROUP TO STAND-UP

Scenic Rim Local Disaster Management Group has moved to STAND-UP status this morning, Monday 23 March, in relation to the global COVID-19 pandemic.

Mayor Greg Christensen, Chair of the Local Disaster Management Group, said the change in status means that all relevant agencies are activated to support the community during this time.

"Last Tuesday, we went to 'ALERT' status however, given the rapidly changing situation, the District Disaster Coordinator has advised us to elevate the Local Disaster Management Group to STAND-UP status," he said.

"This status allows us to draw on additional resources as required and ensures we are well-placed to help manage the local response to these changing circumstances."

The Scenic Rim Local Disaster Management Group includes representatives from:

  • Scenic Rim Regional Council
  • Queensland Police Service
  • Queensland Fire and Emergency Services
  • Queensland Health
  • Department of Agriculture and Fisheries
  • Department of Communities, Disability Services and Seniors
  • Department of Defence
  • Department of Transport and Main Roads
  • Energex, and
  • Red Cross.

"In each event, there is a lead 'expert' agency, in this case, it is Queensland Health," Cr Christensen said.

"Council's role is the planning, coordination and management of the local response.

"We recognise that this is an unprecedented time for everyone and strongly encourage our communities to remain calm, continue to follow the advice from Queensland Health and practise good hygiene and social distancing.

"As indicated by the Premier of Queensland, it is important that people limit their movements to essential activities at this time."
