The Scenic Rim Welcomes Its Newest Australians

The Scenic Rim has another 18 fair dinkum Aussies following a recent citizenship ceremony at The Centre, Beaudesert.

Having come from Asia, Europe, Scandinavia, the United Kingdom and North America, Australia's newest citizens have made their homes at Aratula, Beaudesert, Gleneagle, Kalbar, Kooralbyn, Tamborine Mountain, Tamborine, and Undullah.

Mayor Greg Christensen officially welcomed as citizens those who pledged their loyalty to Australia and its people, their respect for its democratic beliefs, rights and liberties and their commitment to uphold and obey its laws.

"You will be changed forever and become truly citizens of Australia with all the rights and obligations that carries," he said.

"You will also have a voice in the future of this great nation."

Cr Christensen said he was thrilled to see the range of ages and backgrounds among the new citizens, including little Alfie Hughes who almost stole the show.

"They all wished to be part of our great country and the best part of our great country is here in the Scenic Rim," Cr Christensen said.

"It was exciting to see young Alfie and I am looking forward to seeing him achieve great things in the future."

The new citizens were treated to an afternoon tea including some Australian favourites including lamingtons and Anzac biscuits and each received gifts including an Australian native plant.

"We hope you will plant these trees and that they will thrive and prosper, as we hope you will as members of the Scenic Rim community and citizens of Australia," Cr Christensen said.
