Council Approves Mountain's Newest Tourism Venture

Scenic Rim tourism has received another boost with Council's approval of a farm-themed attraction that will include barnyard animals, a café and a gifts and homewares shop on Tamborine Mountain.

The Tamborine Mountain Barnyard will allow members of the public to enjoy a farmyard experience by interacting with a range of animals including silky chickens, ducklings, miniature goats, horses, sheep and alpacas within a rural setting on Long Road.

Visitors will also be able to enjoy light refreshments at the café and purchase gifts and homewares such as home-made candles and goat's milk soap.

Planning and Development Committee Chair, Cr Nigel Waistell, said Council received 122 properly made submissions of which only three were against the tourism development proposal.

"The proposal was well supported by the local community and brings a different type of tourism offering to Tamborine Mountain," he said.

"It will be great for young families and is in keeping with the rural character of the Scenic Rim.

"The animals are currently residing on the property as pets so there are currently no issues with regard to odour or noise."

While the applicant had proposed opening from 7am to 5pm daily, Council's approval of the proposal limits operating hours to 10am to 4pm seven days a week.
