IT'S QUEENSLAND'S BIRTHDAY AND YOU'RE INVITED

Queensland is turning 160 and Scenic Rim Regional Council is inviting everyone to a free family fun day to celebrate on Sunday 2 June.

Queensland Day 2019, the state's 160th birthday, will be celebrated under the banner of 'One Six O' and Mayor Greg Christensen urged all Scenic Rim residents to join in the party.

"Our family friendly event is about celebrating everything that is great about our state, particularly the wonderful region in which we live," he said.

"It's a great opportunity to celebrate not only Queensland's birthday but also the strength and connection of our Scenic Rim communities."

Beaudesert's Queensland Day celebrations begin at 10am with plenty to see and do for all ages in Jubilee Park.

There will be live acts on stage, a range of market stalls and food vans as well as a jumping castle, pony rides and face painting.

A Citizenship Ceremony will also take place to welcome 32 new residents to the Scenic Rim.

"I hope you will join me for what promises to be a fabulous day of family fun, and celebrate what it means to be a Queenslander, our culture, heritage, people and places and our Scenic Rim history," Cr Christensen said.

The One Six O celebrations will continue throughout the week with bingo parties at Boonah Cultural Centre on Wednesday 5 June and at the Vonda Youngman Centre, Tamborine Mountain on Thursday 6 June.

These bingo sessions are open to the entire community and will run from 10am until 11:30am with a free morning tea.

"It is great to have new events to include even more Scenic Rim residents in celebrating the 160th birthday of Queensland," Cr Christensen said.

The Scenic Rim events are part of the State Government's Queensland Day Celebrations which run from 1 to 9 June 2019.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said she welcomed the array of inclusive events held across the State to mark Queensland Day.

“160 years ago Queensland officially separated from New South Wales,” the Premier said.

“And now each year on 6 June we celebrate our State – from the splendid beauty of our environment, to the innovative spirit of our people and our incredible resilience through tough times.

 “I hope all Queenslanders will come together to share in this year’s celebrations.”

Queensland Day marks the official state separation from New South Wales to form an independent colony on 6 June 1859.
