Council's Risk Framework Judged Queensland's Best

Scenic Rim Regional Council has been named the best in Queensland  for its commitment to delivering an effective risk management framework.

Mayor Greg Christensen accepted the 2018 Excellence in Risk Management award at the recent Local Government Association of Queensland conference in Brisbane.

Cr Christensen said it had been a pleasure to receive the award on behalf of Council staff.

"This award is a reflection of the confidence Scenic Rim residents should have in this Council," he said.

"We have robust, thorough processes and risk mitigation strategies and this is seen in Council's planning longevity and sustainability throughout the region."

Chief Executive Officer Jon Gibbons said risk management was an area of continuous improvement for councils in Queensland.

"I thank our staff for their hard work throughout the past year," he said.

"The Scenic Rim team has worked extremely hard to strive towards improvement and that can be shown through our history of recognition by Local Government Mutual in 2010, 2011 and 2015."

The Excellence in Risk Management awards provide councils with the opportunity to share ideas, progress opportunities and enhance enterprise risk management across Local Government Mutual Liability Scheme members.

Council's entry focused on the maturity of the current risk framework and outlined the steps taken to ensure the framework continued to be robust.
