Have Your Say On Proposed Spring Creek Master Plan

Scenic Rim residents are invited to have their say on the latest proposals for the long-term master plan for an active recreational precinct in Beaudesert.

Mayor Greg Christensen said Queensland Government funding had supported the development of a master plan for the Spring Creek Precinct which includes Lions Park, Spring Creek Parkland and adjoining land in Beaudesert.

"In June last year we invited the community to share their ideas to identify key priorities for a well-designed recreational space that can be enjoyed by all Scenic Rim residents," he said.

"The focus of this planning was not only about current community needs and expectations but rather a much longer-term view to envisage what might be needed 10 or 20 years from now as this region continues to grow.

"That feedback has shaped the draft master plan, which is now at the final stage of development, and we are now seeking the community's views on draft designs for the Spring Creek Precinct.

"This is an exciting opportunity for recreational groups - as well as our families, young people and older community members - to share their vision for a precinct that will be at the heart of Beaudesert and the wider Scenic Rim region."

The community consultation will run from now until 15 March. Community members are invited to share their opinion on the draft master plan through a survey on Council's website at http://www.scenicrim.qld.gov.au/have-your-say

While Council intends to work on a separate Sports Infrastructure Review to address the sporting and recreational needs across the entire Scenic Rim community, the draft Spring Creek Master Plan focuses on active recreation rather than structured sports. Reflecting initial community feedback, the master plan has been developed, incorporating best practice design elements.

"The responses from last year's community consultation with key stakeholders, park users, residents and community groups were, as expected, wide-ranging and varied," Cr Christensen said.

"However, there was strong support for walking and cycling paths and for natural areas to be developed and/or maintained.

"Other desired features included a dog off-leash area, water play features and recognition of the cultural and local history of the site."

As part of the community consultation process, Council will present a stakeholder workshop on Monday 4 March 2019 from 6.00pm to 7:30pm at the Beaudesert Golf Club to ensure the draft master plan addresses previous feedback and that proposed elements within the plan will provide adequate active recreational opportunities for the future.

Residents will also be able to view copies of the master plan at the Beaudesert Library and Beaudesert Customer Contact Centre.

"The master planning process is about realising our shared Community Plan vision for vibrant and active towns and a healthy and engaged community, so I encourage everyone to have their say," Cr Christensen said.
