Scenic Rim Regional Council is making a significant move to support Kooralbyn’s future growth and long-term sustainability by securing funding for the delivery of a Strategic Infrastructure Plan.

To accommodate current and anticipated population increases, the Strategic Infrastructure Plan aims to provide a framework for infrastructure improvements, including footpaths, streetscaping, safety improvements, and upgrades to recreational parks.

The $150,000 project has been made possible through grant funding from the Queensland Government’s Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program 2024-2028, with $90,000 contributed by the program and Scenic Rim Regional Council providing a further $60,000.

Scenic Rim Regional Council Division 4 Councillor Jennifer Sanders said the Kooralbyn Strategic Infrastructure Plan is an integral part of Council’s broader vision for the rural community, ensuring it remains a vibrant and functional place for residents, businesses, and visitors.

“Providing funding for the Kooralbyn Strategic Infrastructure Plan reflects Council’s commitment to investing in the community’s future and remaining aligned with plans for its long-term sustainability,” she said.

“The current focus on strategic infrastructure planning demonstrates we are proactively ensuring that essential services and facilities are in place to support both present and future community needs.”

Scenic Rim MP Jon Krause said he was pleased to see money invested in vital infrastructure works to support current and future growth for the region.

"With the rapid growth experienced by the region in recent years and the expected population we are predicted to experience in coming years, it is imperative we invest in these integral projects to continue to appropriately serve our community, " Mr Krause said.

"The Crisafulli Government is committed to working in partnership with local councils to ensure critical infrastructure that supports the growth of our communities is built across the Scenic Rim.”

Located 22 kilometres from Beaudesert, Kooralbyn takes its name from the Aboriginal term meaning The Place of the Copperhead Snake.

In 2021, this unique Scenic Rim town had an estimated population of 1,901.

For more than three decades, Kooralbyn has been a preferred choice for people seeking an affordable and peaceful rural lifestyle.

Residents can make the most of the town’s natural setting and enjoy outdoor activities such as mountain biking, bushwalking, golf, and visiting the aviation-themed playground at Billabong Park near the aerodrome.

Kooralbyn benefits from a variety of essential services and small businesses but is also known for being home to the iconic The Kooralbyn Valley resort and golf course.

Its workforce is expected to grow from 1,856 in 2016 to 2,427 by 2041.

“With ample land available to support growth throughout this period, Kooralbyn has the potential to become another thriving rural hub in the Scenic Rim,” Cr Sanders said.
