Members of the Scenic Rim business community will have wide-ranging opportunities to engage with industry specialists and learn new skills supporting their growth and development through a program of events during Scenic Rim Small Business Month in May.

The Scenic Rim has more than 4,900 registered businesses, with 98 per cent classified as small business with fewer than 20 employees.

Aligning with the State Government’s Queensland Small Business Month, facilitated by Business Queensland, Scenic Rim Regional Council has coordinated networking opportunities and free educational workshops throughout the region.

Scenic Rim's Economic Development Portfolio Councillor Marshall Chalk said it was important to get behind Scenic Rim Small Business Month as the success of local small businesses drives regional prosperity and community vitality.

“Scenic Rim Small Business Month is an important event on Council’s calendar and one that people can’t afford to miss – particularly given the current economic climate,” he said.

"Local businesses not only create jobs and deliver essential services but also underpin our economy and foster resilient communities.

“That's why Scenic Rim Regional Council, local Chambers of Commerce and Destination Scenic Rim are fully committed to providing as many opportunities as possible to enhance the skills of members of our business community.

“The calendar of events aims to help small businesses to engage, connect, and learn new business skills to embrace new markets and opportunities."

Workshops will cover a range of topics including how to improve a digital presence through social media, making your business more accessible, grant writing, understanding business compliance and regulations for short-term accommodation, and managing business cash flow and taxes.

The month-long event will commence with a Business Breakfast at The Centre Beaudesert on Thursday 1 May.

With a focus on the importance of accessibility in our businesses, the breakfast will feature speakers Paralympian Curtis McGrath alongside disability access and inclusion advocate Dane Cross.
