Council grants community groups' Christmas wishes
The Tamborine Mountain Scarecrow Festival is among events funded in Council's Community Grants Program
Christmas has come early for 32 community groups across the Scenic Rim which will share in more than $246,800 in Council grants.
Minor grants for 21 projects, ranging from community Christmas celebrations to wildlife surveillance, and major grants for 11 projects, including improvements to sporting and community facilities, were supported in Round One of the 2024-2025 Scenic Rim Community Grants Program endorsed by Council at its Ordinary Meeting today.
Scenic Rim's Community, Arts and Culture Portfolio Councillor Kerri Cryer said the grants represented an excellent investment in events and organisations which bring the community together and contribute to the health and wellbeing of Scenic Rim residents.
"Not-for-profit organisations, through the work of volunteers, are the heart and soul of our community and Council's community grants recognise their contribution to the lifestyle we enjoy in the Scenic Rim," she said.
"Council is pleased to provide financial support to organisations which make a difference in the lives of so many, from kindergarten children to senior citizens.
"The grants also recognise the part played by sporting and recreational groups in supporting community health and wellbeing."
Once again, competition for Council's community grants has been keen, with 28 applications received for minor grants offering maximum funding of $5,000 and 21 applications for major grants which provide up to $20,000 for eligible projects.
The total value of applications received was $418,000 and a rigorous selection process was undertaken, awarding $75,785 for minor grants and $171,058 for major grants.
In addition to direct funding through its Community Grants Program, Council also provides in-kind support to local not-for-profit organisations, for subsidised use of Council's Community and Cultural Centres and waste bins for local community events.
"Whether for minor equipment purchases or major upgrades to facilities, all of the projects supported through Council's community grants add enormous value to our region," Cr Cryer said.
"These grants represent an excellent return on investment in terms of the value added to our communities across the Scenic Rim."
