Scenic Rim Regional Council is set to kick off works to upgrade lighting on two fields at Tamborine Mountain's Long Road Sports and Recreation Complex to boost safety and increase community participation in sporting events.

Funding from the Queensland Government will enable the upgrade of existing lighting and associated electrical infrastructure from halogen to LED on one field while, on the other, two new poles with LED lights will be installed to provide lighting suitable for community-level football matches.

Division 1 Councillor Amanda Hay has welcomed funding for Tamborine Mountain's lighting upgrade which follows the recent announcement new lighting for sporting fields at Coronation Park at Boonah and Selwyn Park at Beaudesert.

"The Long Road Sports and Recreation Complex is a wonderful community facility that will be further enhanced by and new and improved lighting that will maximise its use," she said.

"Council is committed to promoting a healthy and active lifestyle and the lighting upgrades will encourage greater participation in local sporting events.

"Participation in sport not only contributes to individual health and wellbeing but also the overall health and wellbeing of the community by bringing people together."

The Tamborine Mountain Sports Association (TMSA), which manages the Long Road complex on behalf of Council and the community, has also welcomed the lighting upgrades.

"We are delighted that this is going ahead, and it will be a huge benefit to more than 1000 members from 11 clubs from Tamborine Mountain and surrounding areas in our region," TMSA President Mick Angus said.

"The additional lighting will give us an extra field at night and take the strain off one single oval for all night-time training and games."

Cr Hay said Council was grateful to the Queensland Government for its funding of the lighting upgrade.

"Council is committed to ensuring residents have access to modern sporting facilities that will meet community needs now and into the future," she said.

The Queensland Government provided a $250,000 grant to Scenic Rim Regional Council to support the installation of field lighting at the Long Road Sports Complex to enable Queenslanders to participate in sport and recreation activities.
