Scenic Rim shines in latest Cities and Regions Wellbeing Index

This month saw the release of the SGS Planning and Economics’ second annual Cities and Regions Wellbeing Index (CRWI) report, which placed the Scenic Rim’s community spirit and high quality of life ahead of many other regions across the state. 

The national report, which compared the social and economic wellbeing of 518 local government areas across Australia, rated the Scenic Rim’s overall wellbeing score at 4.83. 

This closely aligns with neighbouring local government areas such as Ipswich, Logan, Toowoomba, Moreton Bay, Somerset, and the Lockyer Valley.  

Mayor Tom Sharp said the report reflected the region’s resilience, economic vitality, and enviable lifestyle.  

“We really do live in one of the best regions in Queensland, possibly even in all of Australia,” he said.  

“We have one of the highest rates of homeownership in the state at 36 percent, and we also scored higher on the SGS Rental Affordability Index compared to the broader state area.” 

Mayor Sharp added that residents benefited from a healthier work-life balance, with only 36.85 percent working over 50 hours weekly - significantly below the state average of 40.06 percent. 

“The report also highlighted Scenic Rim’s strong community spirit, with 14.70 per cent of residents actively volunteering compared to the rest of the state at 11.31 per cent,” he said.  

“These findings are testament to Council’s commitment to foster an environment where all aspects of community wellbeing are intertwined. 

“The Scenic Rim is increasingly becoming a sought-after destination for professionals and families alike who are drawn by our friendly, relaxed country lifestyle and spectacular natural beauty.”
