Wine and Olive Making Business Branches Out

An olive and wine making venture at Sarabah is set to branch out following Council's approval of a wedding venue on the property.

The proposal for Rymera Road, Sarabah, was approved with strict conditions due to concerns by Councillors and community members over its potential impact on its neighbours.

The proposal for an 18-metre by 10-metre white marquee to be used as a reception area for a maximum of 90 guests was approved on the condition that a landscape management plan be prepared and submitted to Council to minimise the visual impact of the marquee on neighbouring properties and that activities involving the property's outdoor area, including the marquee, be limited to 10pm.

Cr Michael Enright said although he welcomed businesses to promote outdoor activities within the Scenic Rim, they also needed to be conscious of their impact on neighbours.

"As some guests at wedding celebrations and other festivities can become over exuberant, reducing the operating hours may provide certainty for nearby residents that they will not be disturbed beyond 10pm," he said.

Mayor Greg Christensen said Council encouraged businesses to grow and to prosper within the Scenic Rim.

"I think this is a good outcome for business to thrive in our part of the world," he said.
