Awards will celebrate the shining stars of Scenic Rim's business community
Nominations are now open for the 2023 Scenic Rim Business Excellence Awards celebrating the businesses and individuals driving the region's economic growth and prosperity.
The biennial awards, which will be presented at a gala dinner at The Centre Beaudesert on 10 November, will recognise excellence in innovation, outstanding customer service and productivity that have contributed to the increasing strength of the local economy.
Scenic Rim Mayor Greg Christensen said the 2023 Scenic Rim Business Excellence Awards will be presented in 11 categories, with winners of each of the 10 business categories to be in the running for the overall Regional Prosperity Award.
"Our region is home to an exceptional array of small and medium-sized businesses, ranging from the traditional to the more contemporary and unique, all of which play a valuable role in strengthening our regional economy," he said.
"They provide new and ongoing employment opportunities and add to the richness of our lifestyle which makes the Scenic Rim such a great place to live, work and visit.
"I am proud of the innovation and resilience shown by our business community that has seen our local economy grow steadily from strength to strength in spite of challenging times."
Results from the most recent Regional Economic Snapshot report released in June 2023 indicate that the Scenic Rim’s Gross Regional Product (GRP) has been increasing steadily during the past 20 years.
The region has achieved strong growth across a number of sectors including agriculture, construction and the professional, scientific and technical services which contributed to an overall 9.8 per cent increase in GRP of some $2.09 billion annually.
"The significant economic growth of 9.8 per cent that has occurred in the Scenic Rim - almost double that of Queensland's 4.99 per cent statewide during the same 2021-2022 period - is largely due to the hard work and determination of the more than 4,730 local business operators across our region," Mayor Christensen said.
"It is their dedication and resolve that continue to keep our economy moving forward, and these awards provide an opportunity to for us to celebrate and thank them."
The awards will be presented in the categories of:
- Excellence in Tourism and Accommodation
- Excellence in Hospitality - Food and Dining
- Excellence in Retail
- Excellence in Trades and Construction
- Excellence in Agriculture
- Excellence in Transport, Logistics, Manufacturing and Mining
- Excellence in Professional Services
- Excellence in Community Services
- Most Outstanding New Business
- Excellence in Business (20+ staff), and
- Trainee/Apprentice of the Year.
Awards nominations will be judged by an independent business expert who will review all submissions and select finalists based on performance criteria, site visits and interviews.
Mayor Christensen encouraged individuals and business operators to see the awards as an opportunity to receive recognition and acknowledgement for their achievements.
"You and your employees work hard and deserve to be rewarded and the awards provide an opportunity to showcase your services and products to a wider audience and raise your business profile," he said.
"This is a valuable opportunity to examine your business and evaluate its core strengths, strategic focus, performance and overall achievements."
Nominations, to be submitted online through scenicrim.smartygrants.com.au close on Friday 22 September 2023.
