Community feedback invited on saleyards' concept designs

Concept design for Beaudesert Pig and Calf Saleyards

Community consultation has commenced on the use of the site of the former Beaudesert Pig and Calf Saleyards.

With the saleyards no longer operational and livestock sales having been relocated to a new purpose-built facility at Silverdale, Scenic Rim Regional Council is seeking community feedback on a draft concept design which aims to create a sense of place for the community.

Council is committed to preserving the character of the site in Helen Street which not only served as a location for livestock sales but also a point of social connection.

The draft design retains a portion of the existing facility and incorporates an undercover rest and barbecue area with picnic tables to be constructed from reclaimed saleyard timbers and the placement of a storyboard illustrating the former saleyards' place in the rural community.

The future use and development of the former Pig and Calf Saleyards site is part of the larger Beaudesert Town Centre parklands project to celebrate the rural heart of Beaudesert and the wider Scenic Rim.

Community consultation, which closes on Monday 4 December, will focus on two key survey questions and also offers an opportunity for respondents to provide a formal submission.

Members of the community are being asked which elements of the draft concept design they like and whether there is anything they would wish to change.

The survey can be completed online via the Let's Talk Scenic Rim online community consultation platform.

Written submissions, marked for the attention of Beaudesert Pig and Calf Saleyards, can also be emailed to mail@scenicrim.qld.gov.au, posted to PO Box 25, Beaudesert QLD 4285 or dropped off at one of Council's Administration or Customer Contact Centres.
