Teviotville Road reconstruction gets green light

The reconstruction of Teviotville Road at Kalbar has been given the green light following approval of the project through the joint Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.

Scenic Rim Mayor Greg Christensen said he was pleased to announce that works are now underway to improve some 4.5 kilometres of road at a total cost of more than $3.12 million. 

While minor works had been carried out in late 2022, including drainage upgrades to improve the flow of stormwater, and repairs to potholes on sections of the road, construction was halted to seek an improved outcome. Council took this opportunity and applied to the Queensland Reconstruction Authority for “betterment” funding to achieve an even better outcome for the road and the region.   

"This successful funding application will enable us to rebuild this essential public asset to a more resilient standard, with a wider scope of works to improve its useful life and its ability to withstand future wet weather including natural disasters," he said.

“I understand the frustration that the delayed works have caused for our community, but I am sure that the wait to progress this project to a higher standard will be well worthwhile.”

Works have commenced at the intersection of Haag Road and Hoya Road and will continue west to the intersection of Old Kalbar Road and Teviotville Road.

The project is expected to take four months to complete, weather and conditions permitting, with works taking place between 6am and 6pm from Monday to Saturday.

Every effort has been made to minimise traffic disruptions however temporary road closures, reduced speed limits and detours are necessary to enable construction crews to undertake their work safely and efficiently.

“Council acknowledges there will be some inconvenience to local residents, business owners, pedestrians and motorists while these works are being undertaken and we appreciate your patience while they are underway,” Mayor Christensen said.

“Please allow extra time for travel and observe the speed restrictions and signage in place to ensure the safety of our workers and other road users.”

Assistance for this project has been provided through the jointly-funded Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.
