Scenic Rim Regional Council has welcomed Transport and Main Roads’ commitment to wider community engagement to manage the delivery of works at Cunninghams Gap in coming months.

The works, to restore lanes damaged during the 2019 bushfires and reduce the risk of rockfalls, are expected to ramp up during 2023.

For the safety of motorists and road workers, this may require regular road closures at Cunninghams Gap during construction.

Transport and Main Roads has committed to working hand in hand with Scenic Rim Regional Council to mitigate the economic impacts of the road closures through consultation with the agriculture, horticulture and tourism sectors.

Council is pleased that the department has acknowledged community concerns and looks forward to ongoing dialogue as works progress on this section of the Cunningham Highway, which is a key connector for the Scenic Rim Region.

More information regarding the community consultation initiatives will be released by Council in coming weeks.
