Scenic Rim's Representative on Climate Change Program

Deputy Mayor Nadia O'Carroll will represent the Scenic Rim in a program to boost the ability of councils to mitigate and adapt to climate change.

Scenic Rim Regional Council is among 31 Queensland local governments participating in the Queensland Climate Resilient Councils (QCRC) program, funded by the Department of Environment and Science and delivered by the Local Government Association of Queensland.

Cr O'Carroll's nomination as Scenic Rim's representative was endorsed at Council's Corporate and Community Services Committee meeting.

Committee Chair, Cr Virginia West, said the three-year QCRC program's goal was that by 2020, participating councils would have increased capability to take positive action to mitigate and adapt to climate change.

"The program's objectives include the development of a Local Government Strategy Guideline and the incorporation of climate change considerations in councils' decision-making," Cr West said.

"Cr O'Carroll is committed to protecting the environment, rural values and unique lifestyle of the Scenic Rim and has much to offer representing our region in the QCRC program.

"She is a past member of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area Community Advisory Committee and the Council of Mayors South East Queensland Waterways and Environment Committee and continues to be involved in biodiversity and marine surveys, water monitoring and as a volunteer in other environmental programs."
