Council Grants Community Wishes

Eighty not-for-profit groups will share in $86,000 in funding and in-kind support provided by Council to enrich Scenic Rim community life.

Round Two of Council's 2017-18 Community Grants Program includes $65,000 to assist community groups to upgrade facilities, purchase equipment, stage events and provide training for members.

Council has also provided in-kind support valued at more than $21,000, to assist 51 groups to cover the cost of using Council venues, bins and tents for community events as well as photocopying.

Corporate and Community Services Chair, Cr Virginia West, said 35 applications seeking almost $103,000 in funding assistance, were received by Council during Round Two.

"As always, the grant applications were diverse, with projects ranging from small equipment to community festivals and conferences," she said.

"Council's Community Grants Program aims to provide assistance to grassroots not-for-profit community groups and organisations which make a positive contribution to the quality of life in the Scenic Rim.

"These grants support many local organisations by strengthening the social interaction of our communities through events and activities that celebrate our identity, culture and diversity." Cr West said.

The Community Grants program was revised in 2017 to ensure that it continued to provide a fair and equitable process for providing assistance to community groups within the region.

Cr West encouraged community groups and organisations to consider applying for grant funding during the first round of the next financial year.

"Work with your club members to ensure important supporting documentation, such a Strategic Plan, is in place and have clear goals about what you hope to achieve," she said.

Round 1 of the 2018-19 Community Grants Program will open in July, with details of the application process and closing date to be made available on Council's website.

Successful applicants to share $44,000 from this final round of funding for the 2017-18 year include:
