Culvert's Naming a Link to Region's Pioneering Past

A pioneering family's long-standing connection to the Scenic Rim region will be marked with the naming of Deeran Crossing at Bromelton.

Council's Corporate and Community Services Chair, Cr Virginia West, said the culvert, some 385 metres from the intersection of Bromelton House Road and Beaudesert-Boonah Road, is 1.3 kilometres from Woodlawn, a cropping and dairying farm which has operated continuously since 1872 by descendants of the Deeran family.

Division Four Councillor Michael Enright said the naming of the culvert recognised the ongoing association of the Deeran family to the Bromelton area, which began with James Deeran in 1862.

"Along with his father and siblings, James Deeran arrived in Australia in 1862 and purchased what would become the family property in 1872," he said.

Council sought public comment on an application for the naming of the culvert, which has been in place since the replacement of the Dam-Dam Gully Bridge around 25 years ago, but received no submissions by the 3 April deadline.
