Council launches fun-filled school holiday program

QLD Ballet Dance Workshop

Scenic Rim Regional Council has school holiday fun in the bag, with a range of boredom-busting activities for all ages and abilities throughout January.

Council's libraries will be offering a range of free activities including Lego, nature journals and more.

Various workshops in theatre, printing and mixed media and creative dance are on offer for the Boonah Cultural Centre, The Centre Beaudesert, and Tamborine Mountain's Vonda Youngman Community Centre. Three of the workshops have a bird theme, bookings are essential for all except Bird Buddies which is a free activity.

There are also outdoor activities planned in the new year with Camp Kokoda hosting $5 beginner canoe lessons the southern shores of Maroon Dam and Council has organised a park fun morning at Jubilee Park in Beaudesert.

Kids' Flicks are screening during January for $5 per person at the Boonah Cultural Centre, The Centre Beaudesert, and the Zamia Theatre, Tamborine Mountain.

To meet the Queensland Government's Public Health Directives as of Friday 17 December 2021, patrons visiting The Centre Beaudesert and Boonah Cultural Centre will need to provide proof of vaccination or certified medical exemption, and will need to check in via the Check-In Qld App.

Highlights of Council's School Holiday Program include:

Impro Workshop with Goat Track Theatre - 12 January, Tamborine Mountain.

This ‘improvisational theatre’ workshop introduces young performers to the skills of spontaneity, energy, listening, observation and focus through a series of games before teaming the participants up for a theatrical showdown between our 'Dream Teams' at the end of the day.

Birds in my Backyard Workshop with Andrea Lynch - 13 to 14 January, Boonah, Beaudesert and Tamborine Mountain.

Come and learn more about the birds that you encounter on your daily walks around the Scenic Rim. In this workshop, children will explore, create, play and discover local bird art with Andrea. Utilising existing bird printing blocks, we will create unique and interesting collages with hand printed birds mixed with recycled paper collage to explore the birds and their environments, that surround us.  

In Flight - Creative Dance Workshops with Queensland Ballet - 18 January, Boonah and Beaudesert.

We are excited to welcome Queensland Ballet Teaching Artists back to the Scenic Rim in 2022. Come along and flutter your feathers and find your wings. This workshop will focus on creative dance exploring the theme of birds in response to the Bimblebox 153 Birds exhibition on show at The Centre Beaudesert as part of Feathered exhibition. 

Bird Buddies - Free Kids Activity Station

11 to 21 January at Beaudesert and Boonah

11, 13, 14 January at Tamborine Mountain

A free kids activity station with native bird mobiles, projects, drawings and an interactive Kids Native Bird Wall. Create your own bird mobile to take home, draw and write about your favourite bird to add to the Kids Native Bird Wall. This activity is associated with the Bimblebox 153 Birds exhibition on show at The Centre Beaudesert as part of Feathered exhibition. This is a drop-in station available for families, no bookings required.
