Message from the Mayor: Clarity of Council's position

Back

"I feel it necessary to address incorrect comments by One Nation Senator Pauline Hanson announcing Scenic Rim Regional Council as a pro-choice Council during a meeting in Logan on Wednesday evening.

Scenic Rim Regional Council has not adopted a pro-choice position.

What it has done is recognise there is diversity of opinion in our community and acknowledge community concerns of those who support a pro-choice COVID-19 vaccine approach.

Any suggestions by politicians or others that this equates to Scenic Rim Regional Council being pro-choice, is ill informed and untrue."

Greg Christensen
Mayor
Scenic Rim Regional Council

Motion unanimously passed by Councillors on Tuesday, 7 December 2021, was that Council advocate as a matter of urgency to the Queensland Government the following:

1. That Council acknowledge and recognise the concerns of community members that support a pro-choice COVID-19 vaccine approach; and

2.  That Council implore that the Queensland Government only include in COVID-19 public health directions, mandatory requirements that demonstrate strong risk-based assessment, to avoid dividing our community by placing severe mental and financial hardship on our local business owners, their employees, residents, and members of the public.
