Household survey

On Monday 17 May, Scenic Rim Regional Council was advised of a survey being distributed to households located in Divisions 1 and 2 of the Scenic Rim local government area asking preferences for Tamborine Mountain to belong in either Scenic Rim Regional Council or City of the Gold Coast.

In line with the Local Government Act, only the Minister may propose a change to boundaries for a local government area. If that was the case, a proper legislated process would then take place via the independent Change Commission to assess the proposal and consider if the change was in the public interest, consistent with the Local Government Act and the Minister's views.

In the absence of a formal and detailed proposal from the Minister, it is not appropriate for Council to comment on speculation, however if Council receives notification through the appropriate processes, Council will be better positioned to make an informed statement.
