Scenic Rim Planning Scheme Amendments take effect

As part of Council's commitment to regularly review and update the Scenic Rim Planning Scheme 2020, the first two amendments to the Planning Scheme took effect yesterday.

Mayor Greg Christensen said the amendments were part of Council's five-year schedule for reviewing matters in the Planning Scheme.

"The adoption of the Scenic Rim Planning Scheme 2020 in March last year represented a landmark moment for the region and our first unified Planning Scheme since Council was established in 2008," he said.

"These two amendments will further support a consistent approach to development across our region and align with the community's shared vision for the Scenic Rim's future."

Two amendments have taken effect after being adopted at Council Ordinary Meeting on 23 March 2021:

  • A Minor Amendment incorporates updated flood mapping from the Refined Flood Study for the Canungra Township and from a localised flood study undertaken by a Registered Professional Engineer Queensland (RPEQ) and includes climate change projections.
  • An Administrative Amendment corrects minor inconsistencies that have been identified throughout the first year of implementation of the Planning Scheme.

"I thank the residents, business operators and community organisations who contributed to the Planning Scheme's development and who continue to provide feedback to Council.

"We've received very positive comments from the community that the planning scheme is easy to use and Council's online supporting materials, such as the mapping tool and various fact sheets, are very helpful.

"We understand the importance of the Planning Scheme in providing certainty to residents, businesses and investors in understanding land use and how Council will support and balance future growth, and Council will continue to work with the community to ensure the Planning Scheme remains accessible and easy to use."
