Scenic Rim Business Breakfast buzzing with opportunity

The Centre Beaudesert came alive with excitement and possibility at the Scenic Rim Business Breakfast held yesterday morning.

A mix of Scenic Rim businesses across many sectors including agriculture, health, tourism, hospitality and education, as well as Council elected representatives and officers, heard from author Robert Gerrish on reinviting your business, understanding customers and leveraging opportunities.

Scenic Rim Mayor Greg Christensen said the COVID-safe event reinforced the importance of being open-minded to possibility.

"The word 'opportunity', which Robert used in his speech a number of times really resonates for me; it's what I wake up looking for every day," he said.

"I'm really excited that so many of our locals understand the notion that we have to keep renewing ourselves and keep opening our minds to new possibilities.

"We have received some great feedback about Robert's speech from the breakfast attendees saying that he really connected with the audience and spoke in a way that resonated with them.

"Our role as a Council is to inspire locals to explore new ideas and bigger dreams through events like this and reassure businesses that Council is with them on that journey."

Queensland Commissioner of Small Business Maree Adshead said the positive energy in the Centre was fantastic.

"This Council is a Small Business Friendly Council, which really recognises the area's population of small businesses and the role they play in our economy," she said.

"A lot of small businesses are sole traders and micro-businesses and it's a pretty lonely life, so getting together at an occasion like this is absolutely fantastic.

"This is a chance for businesses to step away from the desk, network with colleagues, learn from each other, and really reassure each other that everyone is facing similar challenges within their own businesses."

Guest speaker Robert Gerrish, author of The 1-Minute Commute and business best-seller Flying Solo: How to go it alone in business, covered customer retention, marketing, time management, leveraging opportunities and pitching your business.

Hospitality students from McAuley College served guests throughout the morning, giving the students hands-on learning and practical hospitality experience.
