March arts dinner 350 x 190

Scenic Rim Regional Council's very successful Arts Dinners program is set for expansion thanks to grant funding from Arts Queensland.

Council will partner with the Regional Arts Service Network for South West Queensland, which covers eight regional council areas, to deliver the newly named Arts Dinners Live & ONLINE South West Queensland program.

Division 4 Councillor and Chair of Council's Arts Reference Group, Michael Enright said the new program will build stronger connections across South West Queensland.

"The expansion of the program means it will be able to be delivered physically to a wider audience from across the Scenic Rim to as far west as Miles," he said.

"With livestreaming also taking place, it means those people not able to access the live event due to distance, personal circumstances or any public health restrictions, can still participate.

"We have successfully been delivering the Arts Dinner in the Scenic Rim for 13 years now and in response to COVID-19 we worked with Regional Arts Service Network to deliver the program online, and the idea to make this more permanent was established.

"Traditionally as a Council, we've hosted six arts dinners each year.

"As part of this new program, we will host five live events in Beaudesert, Beechmont, Boonah and Tamborine Mountain, and will co-host all other live events and the two online events.

"The live events will consist of up to 80 people in the audience who will be able to listen to panel discussions and live performances and of course eat fabulous food from local producers.

"It also means our community members will have the opportunity to attend the other events outside our region by live-stream.

"Through the Queensland Arts Showcase Program we are grateful to Arts Queensland for $59,860 in funding."

The total value of the project is $119,360 with Council contributing $10,950 and the Regional Arts Service Network for South West Queensland contributing $18,370. Councils from Scenic Rim, Toowoomba, Goondiwindi, Southern Downs and Western Downs, as well as Arts Front and the Regional Arts Service Network will also contribute in-kind support.

The first Arts Dinner in the newly funded series kicks off in Toowoomba on 10 November. Titled Creative Pathways, the evening's proceedings will explore careers in galleries, museums and mentorship platforms.
