Council Streamlines Its Decision Making

Scenic Rim Regional Council has streamlined its decision making, moving to hold fortnightly Ordinary Meetings from July 2019 and disband its monthly Committee Meetings.

Mayor Greg Christensen said the adoption of the new meeting calendar reflected the Refresh and Refocus of Scenic Rim Regional Council and its commitment to continuous improvement and the enhancement of service delivery to the community.

"This is the next stage in the evolution of our meeting processes," he said.

"We realise that, in this fast-paced modern world, people need decisions to be made quickly.

"Making people wait for a monthly Ordinary Meeting for an approval for a development application, for instance, is not good for business and the economic growth of our region.

"The introduction of fortnightly Ordinary Meetings also provides greater transparency in Council's decision-making processes to members of the community than the current Committee Meeting structure.

"Under the new arrangements, minutes of the Ordinary Meeting will align directly with the meeting agenda which will assist members of the community, as well as Councillors and our employees, in researching a Council decision."

Council's Committee Meetings on the third Tuesday of each month, and Ordinary Meetings on the Fourth Monday of each month, will continue to be held until the end of June 2019.

From July 2019, fortnightly Ordinary Meetings will be held on the second and fourth Mondays of each month, with variations to allow for public holidays and community events such as Remembrance Day .

“The adoption of fortnightly Ordinary Meetings reflects Council's commitment to continue to explore ways to be more efficient and to be more productive to meet the needs and expectations of our community," Cr Christensen said.

The fortnightly Ordinary Meetings will be held on the following days and dates:

  • Monday 8 July and Monday 22 July
  • Monday 5 August and Monday 19 August
  • Monday 9 September and Monday 23 September
  • Tuesday 8 October and Monday 21 October
  • Tuesday 12 November and Monday 25 November, and
  • Monday, 9 December.
